There’s still time to check out the Square Foot Show at AWOL gallery, so if you’re in Toronto go see it - it’s on till sept.7!
This is another of my Square Foot pieces, The Call.
Also check out this great YouTube video about the show!
UPDATE: There’s also this one with footage of the opening. I don’t know the person who took it, but it’s nice.

The 2008 Square Foot Show opened at AWOL gallery this weekend. I couldn’t be there (long story), but I’m told it was a great success. Here’s one of the pieces I did for the show.

I just did this on a little piece of scrap paper while I was working on something else, but I kind of like it.
The other newsflash is more positive: I’ll be participating in the Square Foot Show this summer at AWOL Gallery. They have this show every year and it’s great - there are hundreds of participating artists and they all do pieces that are 12″x12″. The cumulative effect is amazingly cool and a bit overwhelming. All the pieces are sold for $200 each, so it’s a great opportunity to score a deal on some beautiful work from established and emerging artists. Get there early though - we went early on opening night last year and a surprising number of the pieces were already sold. The opening reception is Aug. 16th at 7:00, but there is a ticketed gala opening on Aug.15th for those who want to get first crack at the art. Tickets are $20 and all the proceeds go to Arts For Children, so great opportunity to help out a good cause AND get first dibs on the piece you want. More info on the AWOL site.

The fourth Octopus Project show: One Ride Only was/is on yesterday and today, so if you’re in Toronto you still have time to head down to the Distillery District to see some really loverly art. These shows seem to keep getting better and better - there were several pieces this time out that I just loved!
This is my piece for the show, called At the Garden Party. I enjoyed doing this one so much. You know when you’re cooking for just yourself, so you can just make a delicious concoction of all your favorite ingredients? That’s this painting for me. Birch trees, 20s fashions, exotic animals, Parisian architecture… mmm, yum. Here are some more details, I’ll post a link to photos from the show as soon as the lovely Octopus girls have them online!

I did this a couple of months ago. To me it perfectly captures the feeling of walking in a spring rain shower.

I drew this stylish St. George for an Illustration Friday project with a “Myths and Legends” theme months ago, but I got too busy to finish it that week and it languished in half-finished-art limbo until just recently.
Small news item: The next Octopus Project is on July 19th and 20th, and once again I’ll be participating. Hope to see you there!

Me and my dad both love scuba diving. The BC coastal waters where I learned to dive are the home of the Giant Pacific Octopus - the biggest octopus in the world!
This one’s for you, dad, happy fathers day!

It’s true, “House” is a really boring game. My brother and I preferred games like “G.I. Joes and My Little Ponies battle the giant stuffed animals that are destroying Lego Land”.
