Me and my dad both love scuba diving. The BC coastal waters where I learned to dive are the home of the Giant Pacific Octopus - the biggest octopus in the world!
This one’s for you, dad, happy fathers day!

It’s true, “House” is a really boring game. My brother and I preferred games like “G.I. Joes and My Little Ponies battle the giant stuffed animals that are destroying Lego Land”.

The theme of the third installment of the Octopus Project was Push/Pull. This is my piece, Tides. Check out some lovely images from the show here!
In other news, it’s time again for the Octopus Project! If you’re in Toronto this weekend, come down to the Case Goods Warehouse in the Distillery District. This show falls on the same weekend as Doors Open Toronto, so there’ll be tons of stuff happening down there and a lot of artists studios to look through, so don’t miss it. Seriously. If you miss it, you will be very disappointed, and up to 94% less happy than you would be if you had gone.*
Hope to see you all there, but don’t worry - as usual I’ll be posting my piece from the show up on the blog for those who couldn’t make it!
*This statistic is in no way based on evidence of any kind. It is based on speculation and the inevitable awesomeness of the upcoming show.

This is a poster I did for a show at the upcoming Toronto Fringe Festival. The play, being being put on by by Entertainment By Demand, is a one-man show called The Fever. In it, the main character is sick in a hotel room in an unspecified poor foreign country - as he reflects on his life he comes to the realization that his privileged lifestyle is unethical and unsustainable, and that all his life he’s been turning a blind eye to the suffering of others. I haven’t seen the show yet, only read the script, but I hope my image captured some of it’s tortured energy.

This one is dedicated to my mom, who has an amazing ability to make plants grow that I completely failed to inherit from her.
Love you, mom, happy mother’s day!

Toronto’s Octopus Project is shaping up to be an extremely cool thing. Last month’s theme was ‘Once’.
I got such a good reaction to the birch tree’s from ‘The Other ‘ that I decided to do some similar ones in this piece. I didn’t start out with Red Riding Hood in mind, but when I decided to make the coat red I knew that’s where it was going, and it seemed right so I committed to it. And it really works for me, because I wanted this piece to have a whimsical, fairy-tale quality (albeit a melancholy one), as if it’s something from childhood or something half-remembered that you’re looking at through a fog. Fairy tales and myths, because they’ve been told and passed down so many times, have that essence -like a memory you can’t quite grasp.
The show went very well and the piece sold. You can see the pictures here. There’s also a Facebook group , if you’re interested in getting involved or you just want to stay updated on the shows. I’ll be taking part in the next one as well, May23rd weekend, hope to see you all there!
UPDATE: This piece is SOLD. If you’re interested in purchasing any of the other art on this site please contact me at renee_nault@yahoo.com. Cheers!
